Its user can create strong blades from any part of their body. The ability allows the user's body to gain characteristics of steel, more specifically a blade. It is immune to normal slashing attacks, but any specialized attack capable of slashing through steel is capable of slashing the user's flesh. It also seems to have the ability to cut through objects without the need to physically touch them; this is likely a similar principle to air-based slashes used by various swordsmen.

Hagane  no  Karada: Renten utilizes the abilities of his devil fruit to sprout steel blades on various parts of his body. He can even create them inside his body under the skin to use some of his most powerful techniques as well as a "Hagane no Kabe", a defensive move.
 
Hagane no Kabe: Renten's defensive technique, he remains completely motionless and uses his Supa Supa no Mi powers to enable his body to gain characteristics of steel and thus impervious to harm.
 
Koutetsutora: Renten turns the insides of his hands and fingers into blades and slashes like an animal using its claws. If he does this hard enough he can even split objects behind his intended target.
 
Hagane no Saikuron: One of his most devastating attacks, he sprouts circular blades up and down his forearms then makes them spin, turning his forearms into mini-tiller blades that shred anything they touch. His fists remain unchanged during this attack.
 
Hagane no Ansatsu: First Renten turns the insides of his hands and fingers into blades, places his hands together wrist-to-wrist, and finally lunges at his opponent using his hands to both stab and slice at the same time. The sheer force of this attack is so strong that it ends up not only cutting his intended target, but things behind his target as well.
 
Ichisen Koutetsuouda: Yet again, Renten turns the insides of his hands and fingers into blades to attack, but this time he also sprouts a blade on the bottoms of his feet, like ice skates, and dashes towards his opponent, gaining great momentum before striking several times with great speed and force.
 
 
< History >
Renten was born into a very wealthy family who gained their power through illegal trades and covered this up by taking ownership of several random businesses. Renten was a bastard child born from a woman whom his father had an affair with and thus Renten was disowned by his father's wife for she did not want to believe that her beloved husband touched another woman other than her and his father did not even acknowledge his existence. Shortly after his, mother was kidnapped and killed to protect the father's image. Her death was later covered up. Renten was sent to live with his elder sister on his mother's side for his father deemed him too young to execute. Renten was shipped overseas to a island with a small village on it where his sister set up a base for her crew. Renten took a liking to his sister and his sister swore to protect him with her life as he was the only family she had left.
 
       Her father had died of illness months after she set out on her journey. On Renten's 8th birthday she decided to train him so that he could fend for himself for what sense would it make if a pirate could not protect himself. She trained him literally every day for the next 10 years. She started with teaching him the basics of unarmed combat before going onto teaching him how to use a sword and finally teaching him how to use dual wielded swords just like she had during this time. Renten learned quickly and was proficient with a blade by his 18th birthday. On this day his sister had gifted him with two katana she had used at that age and sent him off to join a pirate crew of his own. Soon, Renten found a newbie crew of pirates who called themselves the Grimmlocke Pirates and needed someone with skill like his and they all quickly became friends and Renten was given the name "Grimmlocke's Crimson Blade" on account of his red hair and sword use.
 
    They went on to strengthen their name, until that fateful day he will never forget. The Grimmlock Pirates decided that they had enough skill to take on a enemy crew who had been on their turf for a while and sailed in on their position. They started to attack but the next few minutes turned into hell on earth for them. Their friends were all brutally slaughtered before their eyes as these pirates had far more skill and power than they could ever dream of possessing. Renten managed to fight back the pirates using his dual blade techniques before being blown off the side of the boat by a stray cannonball. Renten was thought of as dead by the pirates and was left go to drift away. He had no idea if anyone survived but assumed the worst.
 
    Eventually the boy who had no idea how to swim, drifted on a large chunk of ship onto a island in the middle of nowhere. He survived on this island for a while by hunting animals and eating fruits. While out hunting one day the boy came across a wild bushel of strange, multicolored fruit. After picking one from the branch the rest slowly shifted back into simple berries but the one he had picked remained the same. He threw the fruit into his mouth and chomped down but was hit with immediate shock at how awful this fruit had tasted. He swallowed each bit of it and fell to the ground believing he was going to die. But something else had happened to him. He felt different. Renten did not discover he had gained the powers of the  devil fruit until a wild boar charged him while his defenses were down.
 
    He was so shocked while trying to defend himself that he accidently sprouted blades from his arms and pierced the boar's skull. He ate like a king that day. Renten still wondered what had happened to his body so he began to experiment with his newly gained powers and even going on to start training himself how to use them. After some time of surviving on the island, a newbie group of pirates docked there looking for adventure. But all they got was stranded when Renten took as much food as he possibly could before stealing their ship. Renten sailed along the mighty seas before eventually finding a inhabited island to dock onto.  
 
    It has been two years since that day and now Renten has become much more skilled with his Supa-Supa no Mi abilities. This makes it so that he no longer needs a sword but cannot bring himself to getting rid of the swords his sister has given him. Now he travels, Increasing his knowledge and skill while searching for a great pirate crew to join. A strong one so that the accident with Grimmlocke never happens again.
